The association was informed of the death of General Sir Charles Huxtable KCB CBE DL on Monday 26th November 2018. He was 87.
Sir Charles was commissioned into the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment in 1952 and served as a platoon commander in the Korean War. He commanded 1 DWR 1970-1972 and became Commander of Land Forces Northern Ireland in 1980 and went on to be Quartermaster-General in 1986, and Commander in Chief UK Land Forces in 1988, before retiring in 1990.
Sir Charles was the Colonel of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment from 1982-1990; Colonel Commandant of the Ulster Defence Regiment from 1991-1992 and the first Colonel of the Royal Irish Regiment 1992-1996.
Sir Charles was one of the patrons of our Regimental Memorial fund.
Sir Charles funeral will took place on Monday 10th December 2018 at 1400 hrs at Holy Trinity Church, Low Lane, Wensley, Nr Leyburn DL8 4HX.
The funeral was essentially for family and friends. A small number of officers and men from the Regiment with a particular connection to General Sir Charles attended.
A memorial service will be held in York Minster on 1st March 2019 and full details of this will be publicised nearer that date.
