The Regimental Association

Patron:                       Brigadier His Grace The Duke of Wellington, KG, LVO. OBE. MC, BA
President:                  Colonel Nick Borwell, OBE
General Secretary:    Major R. Heron, Wellesley Park. Halifax, HX2 OBA.

When the time comes to leave the army, officers and men, who have served long years together, both in peace and war, naturally miss the comradeship of their days in 'The Dukes.'.  In 1912 the 1st and 2nd battalions formed a Regimental Association aimed at helping with the maintenance of this comradeship.  Additionally, the Regimental Association was given the task of assisting those ex-members of the Regiment who for any reason found themselves in financial or other difficulties.

After the Great War, 1914-1918, nearly all battalions of the regiment that had taken part in the war formed their own associations of old comrades, with similar objects to those described above.  About this time the name of the association of the 1st and 2nd battalions was changed to the Old Comrades' Association (1st and 2nd Battalions).  At the conclusion of the Second World War, 1939 -1945, it was decided to form a regimental association to provide help and financial assistance for all those men who had served in the regiment and who might be in need of it.  This association and the Old Comrades' Association (1st and 2nd Battalions) are both administered from the former regimental headquarters at Halifax, together with various other charitable funds.

Affiliated to the association are a number of branches or clubs, whose members usually meet once a month.  These branches serve to keep alive the comradeship of their days in the regiment and enable members to keep in touch with their old friends.

An annual reunion dinner is sponsored by the Regimental Association, which takes place in Bradford, normally in the autumn, on the same day as the association's Annual General Meeting.  The London branch also holds an annual dinner, usually in the spring, at which all members of the association are welcome.
