Death notification – Alan Westcob

The Association has been notified of the death of Maj Alan Westcob (Ret’d).

Alan was born on October 8, 1942 in Nairobi, Kenya. He was educated in Kenya at the Prince of Wales School. Prior to going to the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, he served in the Kenya Regiment and the King’s African Rifles. In 1963, Alan was commissioned into the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment. He served in Germany, Cyprus, Hong Kong and Northern Island until his retirement from the British Army in 1986. He was an all around athlete and was on three Army Rugby Cup winning teams with the Dukes – his one claim to fame was that he played in a different position in each final. He was married to Geraldine and was joined by his first two daughters, Lisa and Alex, during his military years.After his retirement from the Army, he pursued a variety of different professions and adventures, including serving as commander of Operation Drake and Operation Raleigh, round-the-world service-based voyages under the patronage of HRH the Prince of Wales, where he met his wife Judi. Alan emigrated to the USA in 1986 where he followed many other unique career paths, including a group leader on Vision Quest residential treatment for troubled youth, tractor trailer driver, EMT in West Virginia, race track tire technician, swim coach and dutiful stay-at-home dad for his youngest daughter, Charlotte. Judi and Alan lived in Beaufort, South Carolina for 29 years until 2022 when they moved to Greenville, South Carolina to live closer to Charlotte and Alan’s youngest grandchildren.Alan will be remembered by his friends and family for his larger than life personality and kindness to all he encountered. He will be so greatly missed by his family and friends.
