Former ‘Duke’, Andrew Unwin, has been awarded an MBE, in the 2021 New Years Honours, for raising money for the Soldiers Charity ABF (Army Benevolent Fund), Combat Stress and MIND.
Andrew instigated a Medicine Ball Challenge, in which he wore a 3Kg medicine ball handcuffed to his wrist for a week, to highlight the extra burden of people suffering from mental health issues. He only removed the medicine ball whilst driving or sleeping.
Andrew, of Sowerby Bridge joined the ‘Dukes’ aged 19 years old and served 14 years in the regiment, including tours to Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, before transferring to the Adjutant General’s Corps (Military Provost Staff Branch). Where he is currently a Staff Sergeant, Military Instructor and Supervisor.
