As many will be aware June 6th, 2026 will mark 20 years since The Yorkshire Regiment was formed from the Prince of Wales Own, The Green Howards and The Duke of Wellington’s Regiments.
The Royal Yorkshire Regiment HQ has now released details of events to mark the occasion, which will take place in several locations on different days, between the 1st and 12th of June. Here are the dates to mark in your calendars:-
05 Jun. Keighley Freedom Parade.
06 Jun. Halifax Freedom Parade and Church Service, in Halifax Minster, where ‘The Dukes’ Waterloo Colours are displayed.
During the Minster Service a media connection will be made with 1 R YORKS, in Germany and a small 2 R YORKS party led by Alcuin Johnson, in Normandy.
07 Jun. Beverley Freedom Parade and Church Service, in Beverley Minster, where the East YORKS and PWO Colours are displayed, followed by a Freedom Parade in Bridlington.
08 Jun. Church Service in York Minster. This may include a Parade through York and a reception hosted by 4 R Yorks. Details to be confirmed at a later date.
09 Jun. A potential Freedom Parade in Richmond. To be confirmed at a later date.
12 Sep. Parade/ Families Day, at Imphal Barracks. Details to follow at a later date.
There are lots of other activities planned, including 20th Anniversary gifts to be presented to the other towns and cities The R Yorks have the Freedoms of; and support to Museums, as well as recruitment activity.
