David enlisted in 1962 and joined the Duke of Wellington Regiment. He served around the globe including in British Honduras, Germany, Hong Kong and Northern Ireland.  His military career finished in 1973 when as Drill Sergeant he left the army to return to civilian life.  David was married to Jacqueline for 59 years and is survived by her, two children and four grandchildren.

After his service David continued to travel the world in his corporate life, visiting China and Korea as well as going ‘behind the Iron Curtain ‘ to conduct business in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1994 he began a Degree course at King’s college, London and attained a BA Hons in War Studies. He went on to gain a Masters Degree in International Relations at the London School of Economics in 2001 in spite of later being diagnosed as Dyslexic. It is a testament to his character and fortitude that he achieved so much in his life whilst being unaware of this diagnosis.  He remained interested in world affairs and was a member of RUSI (Royal United Services Institute).
