The Association was been notified of the death of one of our Korean War Veterans.
 
Francis H (Frank) Connell died aged 91 in Manchester, on the 21st of June 2025.
At 19 years of age Frank was an apprentice jockey when he was called up for National Service. He went to Korea in 1952 with the 1st Battalion and fought on ‘The Hook’ being taken prisoner with approximately 20 others, on 29th May 1953 (IDJ  issue 89, June 53, page 94′). He was repatriated on 26 Aug, 1953.  Frank received a CO’s Commendation for Gallantry, from Lt Col F R St P Bunbury, for his efforts in Korea.
 
Frank was in long term palliative care in Manchester until his death, on 21st of June, 2025.
 
Frank’s funeral was organised by his daughter Denise. The funeral took place on the 17th of July at 12:00hrs at:-
 
St Clair’s Catholic Church,
Victoria Avenue,
Higher Blackley,
Manchester,
M9 0RR.
 
An interment took place at Blackley Cemetery after the service.
 
All ‘Dukes’ were welcome to attend.
