James Wilfred Ellis
The Association was advised of the death of James Wilfred Ellis, 2/6th DWR.
James formerly of Parkway, Steeton, Keighley, sadly passed away, peacefully, on Sunday 10th December, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was aged 102 years and a Veteran of the 2/6th Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, based at Keighley. James originaly joined the 6th Battalion DWR at the age of 17, in 1939. Being to young to be posted overseas he was posted to the 2/6th, when the 1/6th entrained to Gourock, for the intended sailing to Norway. The 2/6th was converted to an artillery role and by the end of the war James had risen to the ranks of Battery Sergeant Major.
Wilfred was a devoted father and loyal friend to many people.He served as a volunteer at Airedale Hospital for over 15 years. Working as a printer by profession.
Wilfred’s funeral took place on the 16th of January, 2024. At the Methodist Chapel Hall, in Steeton. The Association provided a Standard Bearer
