The Association was advised of the death of Fred Greenwood; an ex-Duke who served in Korea, at the Hook, and later in Gibraltar.
Fred was born on 13 January 1934. He joined the Dukes as a National Serviceman. After being ‘demobbed’ Fred settled in Hubberton and made many friends in the local community.
Fred’s wife died in 2006 and since then he relied on his friends and family greatly, until he needed specialist care in his later years. Following the enduring effects of a ‘Stoke’ – Fred died on the 19th of October.
Fred had two sons, Steven and Christopher, who organised his funeral, held at St Peter’s Church, Sowerby Bridge, on the 7th of November. A committal ceremony was conducted at Park Wood Crematorium following the church ceremony. A wake was arranged at the Rushcart public house (previously known as the Scar Inn).
