General Sir Charles Huxtable
General Sir Charles Huxtable KCB CBE passed away on Monday 26th November 2018. He was 87.
Sir Charles was commissioned into the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment in 1952 and served as a platoon commander in the Korean War.
He commanded 1 DWR 1970-1972 and became Commander of Land Forces Northern Ireland in 1980 and went on to be Quartermaster-General in 1986, and Commander in Chief UK Land Forces in 1988, before retiring in 1990.
Sir Charles was the Colonel of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment from 1982-1990; Colonel Commandant of the Ulster Defence Regiment from 1991-1992 and the first Colonel of the Royal Irish Regiment 1992-1996.
He was also one of the patrons of our Regimental Memorial fund.
Sir Charles funeral will take place on Monday 10th December 2018 at 1400 hrs at Holy Trinity Church, Low Lane, Wensley, Nr Leyburn DL8 4HX.
No flowers please but donations may be made to Combat Stress. A donation box for them will be at the church.
Please note that there is no designated car park at the church, so all parking is along country roads/lanes;
The family are kindly inviting everyone attending to join them afterwards at Tennants Garden Rooms, Leyburn DL8 5SG – no more than 10 mins away, with plenty of free parking.
Please would you kindly advise RHQ if you are planning to attend; this will help give the family an idea of numbers.
The family are also planning a Thanksgiving Service, to be held in York Minster on Friday 1st March 2019 at 1400 hrs. Further details will be sent out once they are confirmed
